Summer Children’s Book Recommendations
The summer holidays are a time when many children (and parents of children) will be looking for ideas for good books to read.
At Read and Relax, we have a children’s book room full of second-hand books, bean bags and cushions for children to browse and relax in whilst they decide which book to take home. Whether they like to learn about the world through imagination or information, I am always happy to help with ideas in the shop!
Author Recommendations for Fiction
Escape Room: Game Zero a book by Christopher Edge.
His original Escape Room was a massive hit with boys and girls alike. Aimed at 9+, it has twist, turns and surprises. He has recently released his second Escape Room book too.
Katie and Kevin Tsang:
For children who love dragons or children who love space! Katie and Kevin have written a fictional space series for children 6+ and then also series of dragon books for the 8+. Utterly captivating!
Andy Griffiths
These are funny stories with drawings as well as text. Some of his books have been re-made into full colour books whilst others are black and white. Lots of drawings and lots of silliness in these stories!
Non-Fiction
Some children love reading facts and there is no shortage of fact books whether they would like to know more about history, science, sport, the great outdoors or anything else. Here are a few titles for some ideas!
The Bedtime Book of Dinosaurs and other Prehistoric Life
An illustrated book about all dinosaurs including their habitats etc. Some pages are devoted to one dinosaur and others a family of dinosaurs. Great for early learners.

The Usborne books are beautiful and engaging and this one lives up to the reputation.

Lots of amazing, funny, scary and clever facts about animals
